Strengthening Family Relationships
At the parent house we believe in connection. Through building relationships with other parents and making contact with Islington local support services, parents strengthen relationships within their own families.
Using connection with others as a route to wellbeing is endorsed by the NHS steps to wellbeing 5 steps to mental wellbeing - NHS
30% of UK have parents reported being lonely read research This isolation causes depression and is detrimental to family life.
We concentrate on group work, inviting parents to be part of groups who meet regularly. Sessions are led by trained facilitators and as well as learning together parents also share stories, laughs and hardships to build genuine friendships and networks that enhance all areas of their lives.
When parents develop strong networks, they begin to create the links they need to support their families in meaningful ways.
In 2024 we facilitated groups for parents of children under 3 years, parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), wellbeing groups, work training groups, volunteer groups and more.
In 2024 a SEND Friend Parent told us
‘It’s so beautiful to be part of an organically evolving group of SEND parents and carers, all with different experiences and diverse backgrounds and different parts of our journey, yet with a common goal of being there for one another. It makes a really challenging parenting/family situation bearable’
