Thank you walkers: Our fundraising walk raised £4,800 for The Parent House

The Parent House: Supporting Parents for 25 Years

Parents, children, staff and supporters of The Parent House walked 2.5kms, from The Parent House to Caledonian Park on March 15th 2025 to raise essential funds for our services. Thank you to all the amazing people who joined us!

Our Trustee Dr Lorraine Walker also completed her 25 for 25 challenge! She walked for at least 25 minutes on 25 days between the 15th of February and 15th of March. She walked in some pretty grimy weather and started the fundraising ball rolling, raising a total of over £1,000.

Why we walked

Times are very tough. In Islington 47% of children live in poverty. That's why The Parent House is here—helping parents help themselves. For 25 years, we’ve been a lifeline for Islington’s families, providing the support they need to thrive.

We believe when parents thrive, children thrive.

We offer:

  • Foodbank vouchers and free clothes in times of need

  • Courses and support groups to build confidence, skills, and combat isolation

  • Opportunities for parents to build on their unique skills to build better lives

But we can’t do it without funds.
We rely on donations to continue our essential work, like many other small charities we are struggling to survive in the Cost of Living Crisis, so we held a fundraising street walk to raise funds for our vital services.

This walk was about more than just fundraising. we also followed 4 of the five ways to wellbeing,

  • Connected with others - there were over 40 of us on the walk, one parent said ‘it’s good for your health and good company’

  • Being active and healthy - short walks are proven to be a useful way to lubricate joints, like knees and elbows, boost immune systems and release endorphins that can reduce anxiety

  • Giving back - a parent said ‘I’m buzzing because we’ve raised nearly twice our target’

  • The diversity of our community and services - We felt proud as we walked, seeing our Islington, with it’s diversity of services such as libraries, adventure playgrounds, parks, community centres and public art. We found out that between them our parents spoke 36 languages, this wonderful diversity was reflected in rich environment we saw on our streets.

We met up with excellent Islington partners including Friends of Caledonian Park who made us a fabulous lunch when we got to their sunny park, and Lumpy Hill Adventure Playground children and playworkers, who joined us at the end our walk to the park. The sun shined!

Together, we can make sure that parents thrive and children have the good start they deserve.
